Conventional
power plants produces
electricity by the
conversion of primary
energy into electrical
energy. For this
conversion, the fossil
fuels are burned and
water steam is generated.
This steam is used to
drive a turbine connected
to the generator. Finally
the steam is condensed
back to water so that the
process loop is closed.
Focused solutions
and products in power
plant engineering:
- Boiler feed
pumps and booster pumps
for pressures of up to
160 bar
- Cooling water pumps for
flow rates of up to
80,000 m3/h
- Auxiliary and pumps
for various applications
- Service for all pumps
in power plants
- Spare part supply for
all pump types
Boiler Feed and
Booster Pumps

-
The
SIHImulti pumps are used
as boiler feed and
booster pumps in small to
medium sized power plants
(such as waste-fuelled
power stations, combined
cycle power plants or
industrial power plants)
with a pressure of up to
160 bar. These
modular pumps are
designed for maximum
efficiency. The axial
thrust of pumps used for
a pressure up to c. 60
bar (MSL/MSM) is
hydraulically balanced by
a patented balance drum
system. The required
thrust compensation for
pumps with higher
pressures of up to 160
bar (MSH) is provided by
a combination of a
balance drum with a
balance disc. The shaft
are sealed by mechanical
sealing.
Cooling Water
Pumps

-
With the
integration of MAN and
Balcke-Dürr products in
our range, Ludwigshafen
had become a centre of
competence for large
cooling water pumps over
the last few years. We
provide cooling water
pumps for all types of
power plants up to a
volume of 80,000 m3/h.
Using an optional
pre-rotational swirl
control the pump can be
adapted to a change of
liquid height at the
inlet during operation
e.g. generated by a tidal
range. If an adjustment
of the flow during
operation is necessary
the pumps can be equipped
with adjustable blades. A
special mechanism changes
the angle of the blades
during the operation so
that the flow can be
adjusted with maximum
efficiency. Due to the
unique design, there is
only load on the gear
while the blades are
being adjusted. During
normal operating the gear
remains load-free.
Auxiliary Pumps

-
Besides
the main pumps used in
power plant, the range of
products offered by
Sterling SIHI includes
all auxiliary and
ancillary pumps required
in power plants, such as
fire extinguisher pumps,
condensation evacuation
pumps, deionised water
pumps, screened water
pumps, intermediate water
cooling pumps and
emergency cooling pumps.
Depending on the
application or design
involved, the pumps
employed can be either
centrifugal, side
channel, volute or
multistage ring section
pumps.

Municipal Water
Supply

-
The
sources of drinking
water, both tap water and
bottled water, include
rivers, lakes, streams,
ponds, reservoirs,
springs, and wells. As
water travels over the
surface of the land or
through the ground, it
dissolves naturally
occurring minerals.
Typical
applications for
Municipal Water Supply:
-
Drainage
-
Irrigation
-
Product Transfer
-
Reverse Osmosis

Municipal Water
Treatment

-
Water
treatment plants using
micro-pore filtration or
reverse osmosis will not
only generate a
contaminated backwash or
bypass waste stream, but
also concentrated filter
medium and membrane
cleaning wastes.
Typical
applications for
Municipal Water
Treatment:
- Mixing
- Product Transfer

Steel Mill
Industry

-
The
principal facilities of
hot strip mills include
three reheat furnaces,
vertical scale breaker,
roughing stand, reversing
rougher with edger, six
finishing stands and
three down coilers.
Typical
applications in Steel
Mills:
-
Cooling water
-
Descaling

Mining / Mineral
Extraction (mining)

-
Mineral
processing in the mining
industry can be defined
as the economic recovery
of a valuable commodity
from a mineral deposit.
Typical
applications in Mining /
Extraction:
-
Crystallisation
-
Drainage
-
Product Transfer

Pulp and Paper
Industry

-
In
a pulp mill, the fibres
are separated from one
another into a mass of
individual fibres and
after separation, the
fibres are washed and
screened to remove any
remaining fibre bundles.
The pulp may then be used
directly to make
unbleached paper, or be
bleached for white paper.
Pulp may be fed directly
to a paper machine or
dried and pressed into
bales to be used as a raw
material by paper mills
worldwide.
Typical
applications in the Pulp
and Paper Industry:
-
Cleaning
-
Vacuum Drying
-
Washing
